The architectural space was done by Astra Woodcraft of Woodcraft Architects. All interior designs were by Studio Life Style in West Hollywood. The house was constructed as a home, not a flip, so the best contractors and materials were used in its remodel.
The House was originally constructed in a classic European Chateau aesthetic. Ivy crawled all the walls in the front to give it that old European feel. A local Los Angeles stone quarry, Palos Verdes or PV Stones, veneered the house’s exterior front and sides. The quarry has been closed since the early 2000s, so all stones had to be saved and reset for all the repair work needed on the house. The back of the house was redone with smooth stucco and new windows to match.
The dining room and 4 seasons room featured 150-year-old reclaimed oaks and other Midwest hardwoods on the ceiling. The house has a 100 square foot indoor wet sauna, and a Nordic dry sauna in the backyard landscape. A new tile roof was installed with copper sheet metal work to accent all the drains, chimney caps, flashings, gutters, and downspouts. The house also has a custom theater, bar, elevator, and bunk bedroom.
The exterior of the property was completely landscaped. The deck and coping were set with a beautiful stone mined, cut, and sent from Morocco. Many of the stone tiles feature ancient fossils embedded in them. Such a cool little bonus to your patio deck tiles. The BBQ area is also new and custom. The Ipe deck integrates flush to the deck tiles to give a seamless approach from pool to BBQ.
The BBQ appliances are set into custom cabinetry also of Ipe wood. The property features a small orange grove planted with some of the best orange trees Ojai can produce. A custom paint basketball court is just outside the two-car garage. The house is fully automated and complete with a backup 400-amp generator.
